CDC’s Office of Readiness and Response has selected the University of Washington Center for Disaster Resilient Communities, in partnership with Northwest Center for Public Health Practice, to create a new Northwest Center for Evidence-Based Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response serving Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and the 272 Tribal Nations in Region 10.
This Center is one of 10 across the nation with a focus on improving the uptake of evidence-based strategies and interventions in public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR) practice among state, local, tribal and territorial public health agencies and their partners.
We are actively recruiting for Communities of Practice based on the Center’s three primary focus areas, which were co-identified during a year-long planning process with regional public health, healthcare, community and other response partners:
- Communications
- Workforce capacity and leadership
- Assessing and addressing current capabilities and future hazards
We hope for many perspectives across Region 10 to contribute to the success of this Center, so we are seeking PHEPR experts and practitioners at any career stage from Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and the 272 Tribal Nations in Region 10 to join these Communities. We invite you to complete this interest form and share your expertise in one of these focus areas. Communities of Practice will meet virtually approximately four times over an 18-month period, and will be responsible for guiding the Center’s work to support evidence-based practice in this focus area.
Please also watch for the Center’s inaugural conference, to be held in summer 2025, which will feature shared learning related to these focus areas and opportunities for attendees to inform future work of the Center.
Questions regarding the Communities of Practice or inaugural conference can be directed to Naomi Cutler, the UW-based Project Coordinator, via email at nfcutler@uw.edu.
